A great opportunity for St. Petersburg
The stadium deal with the Rays is now off the table. The team has said the deal with St. Petersburg and Pinellas County is now dead. (As John Mozena has written, it was going to be a bad deal.) This opens up a big opportunity for the development of the 86-acre Gas Plant site.
Let’s think outside the box.
Mayor Welch and City Council Members – We can reimagine this space and plan a future that benefits everyone. We don’t want to rush decisions. Instead we should focus on creating something unique and meaningful.
Entertainment District?
No Thanks. St. Pete already has an entertainment hub—Central Avenue. Adding another one here doesn’t make sense. It would disrupt what this space could become.
Entertainment districts often bring noise, chaos, and late-night crowds. That’s not what St. Pete needs. Instead, this land should reflect the city’s charm and character.
Let’s focus on building a community, not a party zone. An entertainment district simply doesn’t fit St. Pete. It’s time to prioritize what really matters to the people who live here.

Why not use part of the land for a world-class museum? Picture a MoMA or MET branch right here in St. Pete. It would be a cultural gem and a global attraction. This is the kind of legacy the city deserves.
